Augmented Reality in 2010 (part one)

As I’ve said yesterday, we dedicate this week for predicting AR trends in 2010. Over the last few weeks I’ve asked AR luminaries for their predictions, and I’m going to post them over here (before getting insulted for not being asked, first check your spam folder).

But more importantly, we are giving you, or beloved readers, a chance to predict the future. Please use the following survey to chose those predictions that you believe will come true in the next year (you can choose more than one).

Hopefully, the wisdom of the crowds will prove itself once more, and we will have a very good sense of what’s going to happen. The results will posts on the first week of January, but please don’t wait, and vote now:

Moreover, feel free to share your own predictions. You can post them here in the comments section, on your own blog, on Twitter (use the hash tag #AR2010), or even send them to me (rouli.net gmail.com).

  1. Arguably, googles made their first (very small) move already;
    http://googleblog.blogspot.com/

As for the rest. I think there will a a lot more games and apps, but browsers will still be the main competition.
Things start to emerge on browsers rather then just static data.

I think there will be AR dedicated HMDs , but not consumer level. More aimed at companys/attractions/and university’s

  2. regarding google – yeah, the survey was made a few weeks ago.
If you agree with Thomas, and want to read more of his predictions for 2010 – stay tuned this week!

  3. I’m hoping 2010 will bring a decent see-through HMD.

  7. In response to prediction:
First, relatively affordable, sunglasses like HMD, is out

I believe the sunglasses are currently out already the:
    vuzix wrap 920
    vuzix wrap 310
Both just came out fall this year

  8. None are really ar though.
They arnt optically transparent, nor do they come with camera’s, and they arnt marketed for AR.

    They are more just videoglass’s.
(allthough vuzix does have a camera add-on pack that clips to the top of some of them).
